In March 2026, FOTON Motor completed delivery of 100 FOTON 420 heavy trucks to Tanzania — one of the single largest exports of Chinese heavy commercial vehicles to East Africa in recent years. The handover ceremony brought together senior FOTON Motor executives, Tanzam Motors leadership, and Tanzanian government officials.
The 420 trucks — configured specifically for East African operating conditions — will serve across Tanzania’s mining logistics, agricultural supply chains, and construction material sectors. Their deployment comes at a time when Tanzania is undertaking major infrastructure expansion.
Fleet Manager Mr. Jackson Mkamba of Tanzania Transport Company selected FOTON 420 after evaluating multiple brands. His assessment: “After evaluating multiple truck brands, we chose FOTON 420 for its excellent value proposition. The trucks offer superior load capacity, outstanding fuel economy, and most importantly, the after-sales support from Tanzam Motors is exceptional.”
The FOTON 420’s specification reflects purposeful engineering. High-torque diesel engines handle demanding terrain. Reinforced chassis and suspension are designed for heavy loads on roads ranging from paved highways to unpaved rural routes. The driver cabin offers air conditioning, adjustable seats, and a modern instrument cluster. Simplified maintenance access keeps downtime to a minimum.
Tanzam Motors has invested heavily in infrastructure: a well-stocked parts warehouse in Dar es Salaam, authorized service workshops in Arusha and Mwanza, technicians trained at FOTON headquarters in China, and 24/7 roadside assistance coverage.
The Tanzania delivery is part of FOTON Motor’s broader Africa strategy, which centers on localized CKD assembly plants, a dealer network exceeding 200 locations across the continent, and product customization for regional conditions. The company has indicated plans to introduce additional variants tailored to African requirements in the near term.
